Welcome To Scientific Discovery!

This is the first edition of Scientific Discovery which is a monthly publication for the members of the institute and the followers of the ORE-STEM development throughout the world. Towards the year 2000 the institute will unveil the necessity and reasons to why we have to build the ORE complex. This will take the form of international analysis and their comparison with the United Kingdom together with an insight into the socio-economic implications for the advanced industrialised nations of the world.

News of the ORE-STEM Complex

In September 1996 a meeting was held with the Dr Michael Garnett, chief executive of North Lincolnshire Council and his senior management for the purpose of developing the ORE complex on a 2,200 acre site near Brigg, close to the Humber Bridge and giving direct access to the Port of Hull. This is an on-going situation and the council are extremely receptive to the ORE-STEM site being constructed in North Lincolnshire. On 24 January 1997 the Open Research Establishment PLC was incorporated to act as the site developer. Although formal planning permission for the site was envisaged to be submitted in the early part of this year, it is now proposed to seek that element of the creation of the ORE in 1998. This will allow for greater investigation into the environmental and social impact of the surrounding areas. Sir Richard Sykes, chairman and chief executive of Glaxo-Wellcome PLC helped the institute in 1996 by allowing the institute a specially conducted tour of their new centralised global research facility at Stevenage. Mr Bruce Carr, development controller and engineering manager R&D was our guide. Glaxo-Wellcome PLC have extended this contribution by stating and in their own words "that if there is any way in which the institute feels they we may help further, do not hesitate in contacting us. This will be the case".
