Welcome To Scientific Discovery!

Scientific Discovery is the bi-monthly publication for the members of the Institution and the followers of the ORE-STEM development from throughout the world. Towards the year 2000 the institute will set out the necessity and reasons to why we have to build the ORE complex for the benefit of mankind. This will take the form of international analysis and their comparison with the ‘Western’ economies and the emerging Asian economies together with an insight into the socio-economic implications for the advanced industrialised nations of the world.

Cyprus International Conference

The ‘Brain-child’ of Xanthos Menelaou (Deputy Chief Executive) is now underway. Currently the world’s 20 greatest living philosophers are meeting at a two-week symposium/conference in Cyprus (7 to 21/9/98). This inaugural annual international event which is costing in the region of $4million will become an annual feature. The funding is being provided by a Greek Industrialist (Unfortunately not British or American nor Western Euopean).

WIF Chairman receives one of the world’s highest Engineering Awards



Professor John Argyris was presented with the Prince Philip Medal of the Fellowship of Engineering for his invention of Finite Element Analysis (the world’s most advanced mathematical tool) by HRH the Prince Philip. The award is only given for momentous achievements in the history of Engineering. Only five medals have ever been awarded and those previously honoured include the inventor of the ‘Jet Engine’ (which changed the world) - Sir Frank Whittle and the inventor of ‘Fibre Optics’ (which is continually changing the world) Naturalised American and British educated Professor Charles Kao. Therefore through their pre-eminent endeavours, the WIF Members continue to drive the world forwards. NOTE: Institute for Computer Applications, University of Stuttgart, Germany has recently been awarded a second time (for their work) one of the world’s highest Scientific Awards. Professor Argyris is their Director.

Open Research Establishment PLC

Some Members will or will not be aware that the Institution has a dormant company to undertake and manage the ORE-STEM Complex. For those members who do not know of the significance of the ORE PLC the editorial board respectfully outline herewith where this public company enters the overall equation of the Institution's Strategy. It is intended in time to seek a public flotation of the ORE Complex on one of the world's major Stock Exchanges, most probably New York. The flotation will take the shape of a continuous fifteen year plan of development averaging some $1,500 million per annum of investment. It is the intention of the WIF to offer 49% of the stock in the complex to the world's population and investment institutions. The remaining 51% of the stock will stay in the hands of the WIF's Members so that control can be exerted at all times over the work and development of the ORE-STEM Complex. It has been estimated through informed sources that the company will have a capitalisation of in excess of $200 billion and become the world's largest investment stock. Therefore each one percent of stock will represent more than $2,000 million. Being the largest scientific, technological, engineering and manufacturing complex on Earth, the ORE's work will fold-back the frontiers of scientific knowledge like at no other time in the history of the world. In response to this eventual progression the WIF's chief executive has contacted his friend of many years Sir Christopher Harding (chairman of United Utilities PLC, Legal & General PLC and Sir Robert McAlpine; previous chairman of British Nuclear Fuels and director of several of the UK's leading PLC's, including GEC ) to ask him to recommend a major stock exchange adviser. Sir Christopher is one of Britain's brightest and pre-eminent industrialists who has never lost his initial roots through to the heydays of ICI and Hanson and where he is today and is indeed a unique and highly regarded person by all who have known him for many years.
Members will therefore be informed in due course of the Advisers who will be acting on behalf of the Institution in respect of the ORE's eventual flotation.
