The Rt. Hon. John Enoch Powell PC, MBE, MA
It is with the deepest of regret that one of the INEED's first Associates and a great statesman of post-war Britain has died. Although he was seen as a man of radical change he was most probably misunderstood by his fellow countrymen and the motives behind his convictions. Taking into consideration his whole life history he was not a racist in any true meaning of the word. He dearly loved his fellow man whatever race or creed they came from. If not he would not have enlisted and taken up arms against the might of Adolf Hitler where he rose rapidly from the rank of enlisted private to Brigadier in WWII; the only man ever to do so in the British Army. Indeed, he may even have held the secret in the final destruction of Rommel's Army in North Africa as his knowledge of the German Field Marshall both intelectually and strategically had no equals. This intelligence on Germany's greatest WWII general may have just been enough to tip the balance in Britain's favour. Overall, therefore, like all people who are proud of their country he rightly or wrongly looked at the nation's emerging problems as he saw them at the time and the perceived threats compared with the rest of the world. Considering that if you are trying to protect and safeguard a country's future that you dearly love, that cannot be classified as a bigot in any shape or form. Even other nation's people if it had been the reverse situation would have asked the very same exact questions. I all, he had a total belief in the Nation and his first loyalty was to the indigenous people of Britain. Whatever we may think of Enoch Powell, he was to the end a self-disciplinarian of the utmost integrity and said what was on his mind. This cannot be a crime but an expression and if it were a crime we would all therefore be guilty of this at some time in our life. Mr Powell left this earthly life on February 8th 1998 at the age of 85 years, leaving a wife, two daughters and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. According to many who knew him well he was throughout his life a strong, caring and loving family man. The INEED believes that every human being, no matter of what origin, is created equal; they are the creative medium of the world's evolutionary process.
